Fall 2007 Schlossberg Family Fund Grants
Four organizations have received grants totaling $14,500.00 from the Irving and Gloria Schlossberg Family Fund. The Irving and Gloria Schlossberg Family Fund was primarily established to preserve and strengthen Jewish culture and Jewish institutions in Dutchess County. Fall 2007 Grant Awards Congregation Shir Chadash of the Hudson Valley $3,000.00 Support for a program which will show the film "A Cantor's Tale" and two-weeks later have Cantor Jack Mendelsohn, his wife; Cantor Fredda Mendelsohn and Cantor Hirschenfang answer questions and perform a cantorial concert. Jewish Community Center of Dutchess County $2,500.00 Support for a variety of programming offered by the JCC including a Pre-School program on ecology, a trip to the Jewish Museum in New York for adults and a follow-up course, Judaism 201, which will build upon Jewish values and holidays. Jewish Federation of Dutchess County, Inc. $5,000.00
Support for a talk by historian Stephen Berk about the dangers for Israel in today's Middle East.
Poughkeepsie Public Library District $4,000.00 Part of the "Let's Talk About It" Jewish Literature initiative organized by the American Library Association. Support for a kick-off event for the Jewish Literature Series featuring performances by Rabbi Jonathon Klinger and Kim and Reggie Harris.
