Fall 2008 Community Response Grant Awards

Through the Community Response Grants program, the Community Foundation is able to respond to community needs not only today but forever.  The Community Response Grants Committee reviewed fifty grant requests totaling $128,572.57.  The current focus of these grants is to build the capacity of organizations and the community by providing funding for projects that improve the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofits. Seven grants totaling $16,504 were awarded this fall.

Fall 2008 Awards

American Red Cross of Dutchess County
$3,000

Funds to upgrade current technology with IP phones, wireless routers, an internet firewall with redundant access and a wall display monitor, all of which will increase organization capacity and preparedness to respond to disasters safely and efficiently.

Bardavon 1869 Opera House
$895

Funds for Development staff to attend the Grantsmanship Center's Grantsmanship Training Program - a comprehensive, hands-on workshop that covers researching funding sources and writing and reviewing real proposals.

Dutchess Outreach, Inc.
$2,872

Funds to purchase a new steam table that will meet the demands for expanded services in providing an evening meal for an additional after school program.  Shelving for storage of food will also be purchased.

Families First New York, Inc.
$3,000

Funds to upgrade the development database system.  This will enable Families First New York and its four affiliate organizations, to operate development functions on an effective, results and statistical analysis driven platform that will help them increase capacity and continue to focus on their missions.

Hudson Valley Home Matters
$3,000

Marketing support to aid in the establishment of this organization whose mission is to help senior citizens remain in their homes.  Funds will used to conduct focus groups and a telephone survey, develop a Web site and brochure, maintain a telephone answering service and create a logo, stationery, and business cards.

Rebuilding Together Dutchess County
$737

Funds to purchase new office phone equipment that will replace non-functioning phones.

Taconic Resources for Independence, Inc.
$3,000

Funds will support the implementation of Sign Language Interpreting services using videophone conferencing technology to operate a call center 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Training will be provided to emergency responders and hospitals on the use of this technology and how to effectively communicate with deaf or hard-of-hearing persons involved in a traumatic or emergency situation.
