Fifteen Ulster County nonprofit organizations have received $19,130 in grants from the Ulster County Community Respone Grants program. The committee reviewed 37 grant requests totaling $96,056. Community Response Grants are awarded to help organizations be more effective and efficient. Grants awarded throughout Ulster County include but are not limited to equipment to improve office operations, professional development for staff and/or board members and programmatic areas.
Fall 2009 Grant Awards
Bardavon 1869 Opera House/UPAC $1,968
Funds for an upgrade to the computer used at the Ulster Performing Arts Center.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ulster County $1,000
Funds will provide transportation to college students who will be mentoring children in a site based program at the Rondout Neighborhood Recreation Center in Kingston.
Center for Spectrum Services (formerly the Children's Annex) $1,500
Funds to purchase file storage and access equipment to increase office efficiency.
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Ulster County $600
Funds to purchase flat screen monitors to be used in hosting electronic meetings.
Family of Woodstock, Inc. $1,000
Support for Family’s teen anger management group, Battle the Rage, a 5-week program that was developed several years ago by an employee of Family of Woodstock, Inc., based on the Alternatives to Violence Program run in many of our state prisons.
Gateway Community Industries, Inc. $1,000
Support for the upgrade of the organization's Web Site.
High Meadow Arts, Inc. $812
Support for Act Write, a character education and literacy program that uses interactive theatre programs to support students’ social, emotional development and creative writing skills.
Historic Huguenot Street $1,500
Funds to purchase Past Perfect Museum Software to be used for volunteer tracking and collections cataloging. This software is a proven industry standard designed specifically for small museums.
Kingston Hoops Summer Sizzle $1,500
Support for the Kingston Hoops Summer Sizzle Basketball League program and expansion.
Pine Hill Community Center $1,000
In a continuation of their mission to families, funds will be used for a before and after school program for the children of working caregivers.
Shadowland Theatre $1,500
Funding for an upgrade of the theatre’s Web site including allowing for secure online donations.
The Susie Reizod Foundation $2,000
Funds to support the New Shoes Donation Program to Children in Need in Ulster County.
Ulster Literacy Association $1,000
Support for the purchase of updated resource materials.
YMCA of Kingston & Ulster County $1,250
Upgrades for computer equipment for youth centered programming.
YWCA of Ulster County $1,500
Funding to expand the Girls, Inc. Program which inspires girls to be strong, smart and bold.
